Starfleet Psychological Profile

Deborah Blante is reserved, single-minded, and often appears distrusting of superior officers, especially in her own department, and especially other women.

Her physical presence has been observed to be intimidating to some other humans.  She does not apologize for her appearance, nor does she tolerate being judged by it alone. She has expressed her tiredness of the numerous instances where she was judged by her appearance and not by her actions and abilities, and expects to be underestimated by her superiors.

She expresses a concern that she may have to wait until she reaches her 50's and develops some 'character' in her face and sagging in other areas before she is taken seriously, but her laughter in the interview suggests she is reconciled to her appearance and sees others reactions as their problems, not hers.

When she was a resident, she was stalked by a mentally unstable acquaintance, who 'believed' they were meant to be together. The stalking led to an attack, which she successfully defended against, fatally wounding her attacker. This unsettling experience for her was coped with through several months of counseling. Interviews with her associates support the conclusion that she is not as open or unguarded as she was before this incident. However, her behavior and attitudes towards others are within normal acceptable behavioral attitudes and actions for a Starfleet officer.

  Writers Guide to Deborah Blante

Deborah is slow to develop close ties to others, but is extremely loyal to her closest friends. If you are an enemy of her friend, she is your enemy.

On duty, she is professional and courteous with her staff in the Thunderchild's sickbay, and is generally regarded as preferring to perform her duties in an exemplary manner and not engage in chitchat, and she does not tolerate patients or fools distracted by her looks.

She is an intimate friend of Sherdrick Gatewood and fiercely loyal to him.  Socializing has never been a high priority for her, so during required social functions she is often the first to leave, as soon as it is appropriate. She prefers to skip such events. She has known Captain Gatewood for three years and was the only USS Neimann officer to transfer to the Thunderchild with Mr. Gatewood. Their relationship is a complex one and neither Blante nor Gatewood are likely to discuss their relationship with other crewmembers.

If Blante is approached about escorting another crewmember at a social event, she will decline politely with the most plausible excuse. If harassed, she would be likely to use deadly force to repel the unwanted advance, then use her medical skills to save the attacker's life, perhaps leaving the attacker permanently maimed. Best advice, do not harass her.
