PROCEDURES

The Thunderchild's Science department is comprised of 14 personnel, divided up into 4 teams plus 2 bridge science officers.  Each team is comprised of a team leader, usually one with 3 or more years of experience; and two other team members.  The department is headed by Lt. Commander Pascal.   Under normal circumstances, team leaders are required to report to Pascal's office twice a day; once at 0900 when tasks are assigned to each team, and once at 1800 when each team reports on their progress with the assigned task.  Often if the situation calls, meetings may be called by any science department officer at any time.
Between 0830 and after the 1800 meeting is over, all science officers are required to be on duty with their teams, except watchers.  Watch duty is rotational; officers take turns in fulfilling it; and lasts from 1730 to 0900 hours.  Watch time is divided into two; Watch A which lasts from 1730 to 0000, and Watch B, which lasts from 2330 to 0900.   During each watch, two officers are required to be in the main science complex on Deck 5, and one in each of the secondary science headquarters.  Additional officers may volunteer their own additional duty time, or their duty time can be extended or shortened due to special circumstances at the chief science officers consent. After an officer's has had his turn on watch duty, he or she gets the next day off, but volunteer watchers do not.  A watcher on duty monitors the main systems and performs tasks assigned by the chief science officer.  While on duty, if he or she detects something out of the ordinary they are invested with the responsibility to judge whether or not the incident requires an emergency science meeting or if it can wait until the next one.
