BACKGROUND MATERIAL
     With a grandfather in the admiralty, and a father in charge of security on Saladin, Ben and his brother were greatly influenced to join Starfleet.  Ben had a stable, educated childhood, which effected his performance in the Academy, from where he graduated with honors.  Ben requested a transfer to an actual starship, to get away from his family.  Understanding this, they supported him, and arranged his transfer to the Thunderchild, where Ben is currently a science officer.
